## Dental implants

[How much do dental implants cost in Cairo?
As of October 2026, public listings in Maadi show a single dental implant at roughly 10,000–30,000 EGP, with discount offers from about 5,950–7,800 EGP, and full-jaw implant treatment from 40,000 to over 200,000 EGP. Your exact cost depends on an examination, the implant system, any bone grafting and the crown material.

[Do dental implants hurt?
Most patients feel pressure but not sharp pain during dental implant surgery, because the area is fully numbed with local anaesthetic. Afterwards, mild to moderate soreness and swelling are common for 2–4 days and are usually controlled with standard pain relievers. Pain that worsens after day 3 should be checked.

[How long do dental implants last?
A well-placed dental implant that has bonded with healthy bone can typically last 20 years or more, and many last for decades. The crown on top usually needs replacing sooner, often after 10–15 years. Gum health, smoking, diabetes, teeth grinding and regular maintenance have the biggest influence on how long an implant lasts.

[Am I a good candidate for dental implants?
You are usually a good candidate for dental implants if you are an adult whose jaw has stopped growing, your gums are healthy or treatable, you have enough bone (or can have it rebuilt), and your general health allows minor oral surgery. Uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking, some bone medications and jaw radiotherapy need careful assessment.

[Can I get dental implants and teeth on the same day?
In suitable cases, yes. An implant can sometimes be placed on the same day a tooth is removed, and a temporary tooth or full-arch bridge attached within hours or days. This needs healthy bone, no active infection and good initial implant stability. The final teeth are made after a few months of healing.

[Should I get an implant, a bridge or a denture?
An implant replaces a tooth without touching neighbouring teeth and helps preserve bone, but needs surgery and costs more. A bridge is fixed and quicker but requires shaping adjacent teeth. A denture is the least invasive and least expensive but is removable and less stable. The right choice depends on your bone, health, budget and remaining teeth.

[What is the difference between All-on-4 and All-on-6?
Both replace a full arch of teeth with a fixed bridge on implants. All-on-4 uses four implants, often with the back two angled to avoid grafting; All-on-6 uses six, spreading biting forces more widely and offering more backup if one implant has a problem. The choice depends mainly on available bone, jaw, bite force and budget.

[Do I need a bone graft or sinus lift before dental implants?
You may need a bone graft if your jawbone is too thin or short to hold an implant securely, which is common after tooth loss. A sinus lift adds bone under the sinus floor in the upper back jaw. A 3D scan shows whether either is needed; shorter or angled implants can sometimes avoid grafting.

## Dentures and overdentures

[What is an implant-retained overdenture?
An implant-retained overdenture is a removable denture that clips onto two or more dental implants. The implants stop the denture from lifting or sliding, so chewing, speaking and confidence improve greatly compared with a conventional denture, while needing fewer implants and less cost than a fixed full-arch bridge. It is removed daily for cleaning.

[How long does it take to get used to new dentures?
Most people adjust to new dentures within about 2–4 weeks, though full comfort with a lower denture can take a few months. Expect extra saliva, some sore spots, a change in speech and a learning period for chewing in the first days. Sore spots should be adjusted by your dentist rather than endured.

[Which is better: flexible, acrylic or chrome dentures?
None is better for everyone. Acrylic dentures are economical, easy to adjust and add teeth to, but bulkier. Chrome-cobalt partial dentures are thinner, stronger and rest on teeth for support, but cost more. Flexible (nylon) dentures look discreet with gum-coloured clasps and suit some cases, but are harder to adjust, reline or repair.

[My denture is loose. What should I do?
A denture usually becomes loose because the gum and bone beneath it shrink over time. Use a small amount of denture adhesive short term, but see your dentist: a reline can often restore the fit, a worn denture may need remaking, and two implants can hold a persistently loose lower denture firmly in place.

## Crowns, veneers and whitening

[Zirconia vs E.max vs porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns: which is right for me?
Zirconia is typically chosen for back teeth and bridges because it is very strong and resists chipping. E.max (lithium disilicate) usually gives the most natural translucency for front teeth. Porcelain-fused-to-metal is an older, proven option but can show a grey margin. The right choice depends on the tooth, your bite and your aesthetic goals.

[Are veneers safe? What should I know before getting a Hollywood smile?
Veneers are generally safe when they are planned conservatively, bonded mainly to enamel and placed on healthy teeth and gums. The risks come from over-preparing teeth, treating too many teeth for purely cosmetic reasons, or ignoring grinding and gum disease. Some tooth reduction cannot be reversed, so a careful plan and a preview matter.

[How long do veneers last?
Porcelain (ceramic) veneers commonly last 10 to 15 years or longer with good care, while composite veneers typically last around 4 to 8 years before they need polishing, repair or replacement. Lifespan depends on bonding to enamel, your bite, grinding habits, gum health and oral hygiene. No veneer lasts forever, so plan for maintenance.

[Is teeth whitening safe? Does it damage enamel?
Professional teeth whitening is generally safe when a dentist checks your teeth first and supervises the treatment. Peroxide gels lighten stains inside the tooth without removing enamel. The most common side effects are temporary sensitivity and gum irritation. Whitening does not change crowns, veneers or fillings, and it is not advised during pregnancy or with untreated decay.

## General dental care

[Is root canal treatment painful?
For most patients, root canal treatment feels similar to having a filling, because the tooth is fully numbed with local anaesthetic. The severe pain people associate with root canals usually comes from the infection before treatment, not the procedure. Mild soreness for a few days afterwards is common and is usually managed with simple painkillers.
Read the answer](https://elnabidentalclinic.com/en/faq/is-root-canal-treatment-painful/)
[Do I need a crown after root canal treatment?
Often, yes, especially for molars and premolars. A root-treated back tooth has usually lost a lot of structure and is more likely to crack under chewing forces, so a crown or onlay that covers the cusps protects it. Front teeth with little damage may only need a bonded filling. The decision depends on how much healthy tooth remains.
Read the answer](https://elnabidentalclinic.com/en/faq/do-i-need-a-crown-after-root-canal/)
[When should wisdom teeth be removed?
Wisdom teeth should usually be removed when they cause problems: repeated gum infection (pericoronitis), decay that cannot be treated, damage to the neighbouring molar, cysts, or gum disease around them. Healthy, fully erupted or symptom-free wisdom teeth are often monitored rather than removed. The decision is based on an examination and X-ray, not age alone.
Read the answer](https://elnabidentalclinic.com/en/faq/when-should-wisdom-teeth-be-removed/)
[How often should I see a dentist for a check-up and cleaning?
Many adults do well with a dental check-up and cleaning every 6 to 12 months, but the right interval depends on your individual risk. People with gum disease, frequent decay, diabetes, implants, dentures or braces may need visits every 3 to 6 months, while low-risk adults may safely go up to 12 months or longer between check-ups.
Read the answer](https://elnabidentalclinic.com/en/faq/how-often-should-i-see-a-dentist/)
[Composite (white) vs amalgam (silver) fillings: which is better?
Composite (white, tooth-coloured) fillings match your teeth, bond to the tooth and usually need less drilling, which is why they are now the most common choice. Amalgam (silver) fillings are durable and tolerant of moisture, but are being phased down worldwide for environmental reasons. Intact amalgam fillings do not usually need replacing just because of the material.
Read the answer](https://elnabidentalclinic.com/en/faq/composite-vs-amalgam-fillings/)
[Is it safe to have dental treatment during pregnancy?
Yes, most necessary dental care is considered safe during pregnancy. Check-ups, cleaning, fillings, and urgent treatment for pain or infection should not be delayed, and the second trimester is usually the most comfortable time. Elective cosmetic treatments such as whitening and veneers are normally postponed until after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Always tell your dentist you are pregnant.

## Visits, costs and practical questions

[What should I do in a dental emergency?
Go to a hospital emergency department immediately for facial swelling spreading towards the eye or neck, difficulty breathing or swallowing, high fever, bleeding that will not stop, or a jaw injury. For a knocked-out adult tooth, hold it by the crown, rinse briefly, put it back in or store it in milk, and see a dentist within the hour.

[What happens at my first visit to El Nabi Dental Clinic?
A first visit is a consultation, not a rush into treatment. We take your medical and dental history, listen to your concerns, examine your teeth, gums, bite and any dentures or implants, take X-rays or request a scan only if needed, then explain your options with their pros, cons and alternatives, and give you a written treatment plan.
