FAQ · Dental implants

# What is the best type of dental implant in Egypt: Korean, German, Swiss or American?

Short answer

No country of origin is automatically superior. A good implant comes from an established manufacturer with published long-term clinical data, recognised regulatory approval, a traceable implant card and parts that will still be available years from now. Established Korean, German, Swiss and American systems can all meet this standard; they differ mainly in price and depth of evidence. The diagnosis, plan and skill of the dentist usually matter more than the label.

Patients in Egypt are often offered a menu: Korean implant at one price, German at another, Swiss at the top. It is natural to assume the most expensive must be the safest, or that the cheapest must be a gamble. The truth is more useful. **Country of origin alone does not decide quality.** What matters is whether the specific system has solid clinical evidence, is properly manufactured and approved, can be identified and serviced years from now, and is placed according to a careful plan.

## Is there one top dental implant brand in the world?

No single brand is right for every mouth. More than 300 companies worldwide now sell dental implants, according to a 2020 editorial in the International Journal of Oral Implantology, and many offer several systems. A handful of long-established manufacturers have decades of published research behind them. Many newer or low-cost systems have far less documentation, which does not automatically mean they are poor, but it does mean there is less proof that they perform well over 10 years and more.

Interestingly, when researchers compared well-documented systems from several major manufacturers, they found no obvious difference in five-year survival between them, with pooled survival around 96%. In other words, among properly documented systems, the plan and the clinician tend to matter more than the logo.

## Korean vs German vs Swiss vs American implants: what is the real difference?

| Group | What it usually means | Evidence | Price in Cairo listings\* |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Premium established systems (often Swiss or Swedish-origin, some German) | Long history, wide range of parts for complex and front-tooth cases, global support | Decades of published long-term data | Roughly 12,000–30,000+ EGP per implant |
| Established mid-range systems (many German, American, Italian) | Well-known manufacturers with good component ranges | Good published data, varies by system | Roughly 10,000–20,000 EGP |
| Established value systems (many Korean, some Israeli and others) | Very widely used worldwide, lower price, modern designs | Growing body of clinical studies, shorter track record than the oldest systems | Roughly 8,000–15,000 EGP |
| Unknown or unbranded implants | Origin, approval or manufacturer unclear | Little or none | Often the cheapest offers |

\*As of October 2026, from public clinic listings in Cairo. Across all brands, single implants in Maadi listings are roughly 10,000–30,000 EGP, with discount offers from about 5,950 EGP. Some prices include the crown and some do not; a crown on top commonly adds several thousand pounds. The exact cost depends on an examination, the number of implants, and whether you need extraction, bone grafting or a sinus lift. ## What actually makes a dental implant good?

- **Clinical evidence:** published studies following that system in patients for years, not just laboratory tests or brochures.
- **Regulatory approval and quality systems:** for example CE marking in Europe or FDA clearance in the United States, and certified manufacturing.
- **Surface and connection design:** how the implant bonds to bone and how tightly the parts fit together, which affects bone stability and screw loosening.
- **Range of components:** narrow, short or angled options for difficult bone, and parts that allow a natural-looking front tooth.
- **Long-term availability:** the company and its local supplier are likely to still exist when you need a new screw or crown in 10 years.

## Ask for your implant card (implant passport)

Whatever brand you choose, ask for a written record of what was placed in your mouth: the manufacturer, system, diameter and length, the date, the position, and the parts used for the crown. Implant journals recommend giving every patient such a card. If you ever need a repair in another clinic or another country, this record lets the dentist identify the system and order matching parts instead of guessing, which matters even more if you later need help with a [failing or loose implant](https://elnabidentalclinic.com/en/faq/dental-implant-failure-signs/).

## Why the plan and the dentist matter more than the label

Most implant problems are not caused by the metal. They come from placing an implant in the wrong position or angle, in bone that needed grafting, in a mouth with untreated gum disease, or under a crown that is hard to clean or that overloads the bite. A premium implant placed poorly can fail; a well-documented value implant placed in the right spot with a well-designed crown can serve for many years. Good outcomes come from:

1. a proper examination and 3D scan where needed;
2. treating gum disease and controlling health conditions first;
3. positioning the implant for the final tooth, not just where the bone is easiest;
4. a crown shaped to be cleaned and a bite that is balanced;
5. regular maintenance afterwards.

## Choosing between implant options

### When might it be worth paying for a premium system?

There is no rule, but patients and dentists sometimes prefer a system with the longest track record when the case is demanding: very thin or short bone, a highly visible front tooth, a full-arch bridge, or a patient who will be living abroad and wants parts that are easy to find internationally. In a straightforward back tooth with good bone, an established value system may be a perfectly reasonable choice. Ask your dentist to explain why a particular system suits your case.

### What about zirconia (metal-free) implants?

Zirconia implants are an option for the small number of people with a confirmed titanium sensitivity or who strongly prefer metal-free treatment. They have less long-term evidence than titanium and fewer component options, so they are usually reserved for selected cases.

### Red flags when choosing an implant offer

- The clinic cannot or will not tell you the brand and origin of the implant.
- No implant card or written record is offered.
- A price far below the market with no explanation of what is included.
- No X-ray or 3D assessment before surgery is booked.
- Pressure to decide on the spot.
