Replacing an old denture: more than a new set of teeth
A denture made fifteen or twenty years ago was fitted to a jaw that has since changed. Bone shrinks gradually after teeth are lost, which is why older dentures start to rock, rub or need more adhesive each year. A new denture can restore comfort, but only if it is designed around the jaw as it is now, with the bite height and lip support checked carefully.
For some patients, especially with a loose lower denture, two implants supporting the denture can make a large difference to stability. This is the focus of Prof. Nouran Abdel Nabi's published research on implant-retained overdentures. It is not suitable for everyone: general health, bone volume and the ability to clean around the implants all need to be assessed. Our page on what to do about a loose denture covers the options, from relining to overdentures.
Crowns and root canals on heavily restored teeth
Agouza patients in their fifties and sixties often have teeth with large old fillings or crowns that have started to leak. Before replacing a crown, we check whether the root underneath is healthy. If the nerve is infected, root canal treatment may be needed first, followed by a new crown to protect the tooth. Sometimes a tooth cannot be saved predictably, and we will say so rather than invest in a restoration that is likely to fail.
Getting from Agouza to Maadi
The straightforward route is across the 6th of October Bridge into Downtown, then south on the Corniche El Nil along the east bank, past Garden City and Old Cairo into Maadi. Off-peak, this typically takes around 30–45 minutes. Peak-hour traffic on the bridge and Corniche can stretch it considerably, so mid-morning appointments tend to be easier.
There is no metro station inside Agouza itself; patients who prefer the metro usually go to Dokki or El Bohooth on Line 2, change at Sadat to Line 1 and ride south. Directions and a map pin are sent on WhatsApp after booking.
Coming with an older family member
Denture work involves several appointments: impressions, bite registration, a try-in, the fitting and at least one adjustment. For older patients travelling from Agouza, we try to keep each visit efficient and avoid unnecessary trips, and we explain each stage to the accompanying relative as well as the patient.
If what you need is a simple check, a cleaning or a quick repair, a clinic nearer home may be more convenient. The trip to Maadi earns its place for full or partial dentures, overdentures and multi-tooth crown work where the plan will need to last.

Common questions
My mother in Agouza has a loose lower denture. Should she come to Maadi?
If adhesive no longer helps and eating is difficult, a proper assessment is worthwhile. Options range from relining or remaking the denture to an implant-retained overdenture, which is Prof. Nouran's research focus. We plan visits to limit trips and explain each step to her and to the family.
Is there a metro option from Agouza to the clinic?
Agouza has no station of its own. Most patients walk or take a short ride to Dokki or El Bohooth on Line 2, change at Sadat to Line 1 and continue south to Maadi. Many older patients prefer a car, especially on fitting days.
How many visits does a new denture need for someone coming from Agouza?
A conventional complete denture usually involves around four to five visits, from impressions to fitting, plus adjustments afterwards. The exact number depends on the case. We try to schedule them efficiently and will give you a clear plan at the first examination.
